Household Hazardous Waste

Household hazardous wastes and problem materials are unwanted household materials that are flammable, an oxidizer, corrosive, toxic, reactive or contain polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). These products have a wide variety of uses in your household, but they can harm human health and the environment if not used, stored or disposed of properly.  These items cannot be thrown in the trash.  

Examples of household hazardous waste:

  • Any material labeled with signal words:
    • Danger
    • Caution
    • Warning
    • Poison
  • Paint
  • Solvents
  • Pesticides
  • Oven & drain cleaners
  • Furniture strippers
  • Wood preservatives

Where are these items accepted?

Household hazardous waste is accepted at either of the transfer stations in Hubbard County from April 15th through September 15th.  When you arrive at the transfer station go into the office and ask where your specific household hazardous waste should be placed.  If you have items that are still usable be sure to put them in the materials exchange area.

If the waste is from a business in Hubbard County please contact us before bringing the waste in.  

Materials exchange:

If you have household hazardous waste that is still usable those items can be set aside.  Residents can then browse their these usable materials and take any for no charge.  

Paint exchange:

Usable paint can be brought to the transfer station April through September at both of the transfer stations.  This usable paint can also be taken by Hubbard County residents for free. 

Fees:

If you are a Hubbard County resident there is no charge for disposal of household hazardous waste.  If the waste is from a business that is in the county please contact us before bringing in any of the waste.  There may be a small fee depending on what materials you have.  Any household hazardous waste from outside the county will not be accepted.
