JOB TITLE:
                                                      Chief Deputy Assessor OR Deputy Assessor (one position to be filled but not both)

DEPARTMENT:                                               Land Records – Assessor’s Department

HOURS PER WEEK:                                       40 hours/week, normally 8:00 to 4:30 p.m. - hours will be determined by supervisor, as required.

SALARY RANGE:                                            Chief Deputy Assessor $22.2495 (step 1) - $29.0306 (step 10) per hour DOQ, full benefit package (expected start wage $22.2495)
                                             OR
Deputy Assessor $16.5557 (step 1) - $21.6015 (step 10) per hour DOQ, full benefit package (expected start wage $16.5557)

DUTIES:                                                            Chief Deputy Assessor:  Coordinate and administer the assessment process and supervise the staff appraisers and local assessors.  Make decisions for the Assessor’s Office in the absence of the County Assessor.  This position is also accountable for supervising and coordination of data entry of all functions of the Computer Aided Mass Appraisal (CAMA) System in order to provide accurate and efficient assessment records and reports.  Must view, evaluate, appraise and classify real estate, and personal property.  Other duties as assigned by the County Assessor.

                                                                           Deputy Assessor:  Under general direction of the County Assessor, the Deputy assessor provides direct assessing customer service in addition to administrative/technical assistance relative to the assessing functions of the Land Records Department and other duties as assigned by the County Assessor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                       Chief Deputy Assessor:  Requires a Bachelor’s degree (Real Estate/Appraisal, finance, economics, business, public administration or related field or equivalent knowledge gained from combination of education and experience) and 3 years Minnesota property tax assessment experience including 2 years understanding of the mass appraisal system and tax software, and knowledge of MN property tax classification and valuation statutes, special programs, and Department of Revenue (DOR) Directives. This position also requires an Accredited Minnesota Assessor (AMA) License from the MN State Board of Assessors, Minnesota driver’s license, and Certification in Property Tax Calculation to provide property tax estimates.

                                                                           Deputy Assessor:  Requires a high school diploma or equivalent with three years of directly related experience or a combined equivalent.  This position requires a Certified MN Assessor (CMA) License from the MN State Board of Assessors, income qualifications within 2 years of employment, and hold a valid driver’s license.  An Accredited MN Assessor (AMA) licensure will be required by 2019.

                                                                           Successful applicant for either position must possess strong mathematical aptitude, organizational and communication skills and continuing education classes or seminars to maintain licensure is required.
